Christmas 2012

So the day started like this...

and quickly progressed to this...

"Santa" made an appearance...

And was treated like this...

Angus was thrilled with his telescope.

As was Sam with his lego.

Henry's car track was 'awesome!'

And William loved his balance bike

 We miss ya, sista!

Merry Christmas!

Ho Ho Ho

Notwithstanding Christmas slap bang in the middle of the last few days, I have managed to finish off and start a couple of projects.

Christmas was wonderful and relaxing and everyone had a ball. I'll put some photos up later, but for now, back to the quilting.

I saw this type of quilt on a blog and it was described as very easy to make so I decided to give it a go with leftover scraps of fabric. I laid it out, but oops, I've managed to run out of white fabric. Some of the blocks are missing it, so I've stacked it up and put it aside for now.

I'm very pleased to reveal my finished log cabin cushion. Milly showed me how to insert a hidden zip and I backed it with purple stripey fabric.

I think it looks great on the couch teamed up with the Pezzy cushion and the Raggy Circle quilt.

Finally I spent yesterday afternoon and this morning piecing together this whirly gig quilt. I've had the fabric sitting there for a while not sure what to do with it. Milly showed me this pattern so I decided to give it a go. It was fun to make, but once again I don't have any backing fabric so I will put it aside until I get some.

We have orange belts!

Karate windup on Thursday.

Angus and Sam both achieved their Orange belts.

On the way home we noticed someone doing Christmas, country style!

The last few days

The cloud burst at home put a stop to the last scrap of harvest we had to do. This meant Richard could come to Perth with us for the kids karate grading.

We had lots of fun at the beach.

The karate grading went well. Results next Thursday. Nana and Poppa made the trip into the city to watch. Angus the Killer accidentally gave a fellow white belt a blood nose when he came too close!

Henry decided on some holiday colour! He's got such a soft, mush ball expression you'd never guess he's a little devil!

Bieberesque... Or funky metro man?

William inherited a toy dinosaur from his cousin George. It makes growly noises and walks and he is quite scared of it. Or at least he was ...

Seem to be best buds now!

This is why I love Freo. It has a personality all it's own. Where else would you find a tree wrapped in a hand knitted scarf?

Cloud Burst

We had what's known as a 'cloud burst' pretty much right over the house today. Torrential downpour like you would see in the tropics. A km away and there was barely any runoff. I think the photos describe it best.

Oh My! I've finished the red strip quilt!

Well I've been sitting on hand stitching down the binding of this for a few weeks. In fact I had done about 3/4 of it and only had one side left. I plonked myself on the couch and got it finished last night.

I'm definitely keeping it for a couch throw. I'm very happy with the way it turned out and love the catchy red and white.

Christmas decorations

William couldn't help himself but strip the Christmas tree and stuff the baubles in my decorative bird cage. He is obsessed with this birdcage and if you are looking for something he has filched (most usually the tv remote) I always head straight for this as he loves to stuff things in there.

Any way, I stumbled across it half full and decided it looked good and so I stripped the uppermost tree branches that W couldn't reach and put in the rest.

Something different for Christmas.

Log Cabin

So as I suspected I couldn't help but piece this together today. I really love it and have decided to turn it into a cushion for the couch.

I have some red spotty minky left over that might be ok for the back. I'll have to check it out.

Carnage

I guess I asked for it!

I'm just amazed half of it is still together.

Busy Day!

I put away the flannel topper as I don't have any backing or binding for it and couldn't help but launch into something else I eyed on Pinterest.

It's a scrap Log Cabin block using 1 1/2 inch scraps in a rainbow colourway. I'm really taken with it and suspect I will end up spending tomorrow sewing it while the kids run amok :)

I'm not sure about the yellow butterfly strip nor the second most outer layer of blues. I'll leave it on the floor overnight, pray like crazy that William doesn't tango on it, and see what I think of it in the morning.

It's Flanny time!

I bought these 12 matching plaid fabrics in various shades of blue. As they are all flannelette, the responses have been lukewarm "it looks like a bogan flannel shirt".

I thought they were a good way to try out a random Post and Rail type quilt. As the flannel was a bit stretchy one way and not the other I had to play around a bit with the seam allowances to ensure they met up evenly when sewed together. Each strip is 1 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches to give a 4 inch visible block when sewed together.

Armchair Update

I thought I might post a couple more pics of the succulent armchair. The plants have grown well and are beginning to fill out on the chair.

Christmas Card

So the 2012 Christmas card has hit the deck. I think it was well received ;)
