Red stripe topper continues

William fell asleep in the car today on our way home from gallivanting so I dashed inside and hit the sewing table (formally known as the dining table). I stripped up a repeat of the red and whites and started sewing furiously.

Of course William woke up immediately, but luckily the boys were home from school soon after and kept him amused. I finished all the strips.


I'm still playing around with borders. Some sort of red and white combo. I need to get some more solids and we are heading to Perth on Friday so the rest might have to wait till we get back.


To keep me occupied in the meantime I started piecing together 2 little pram quilts for a friends little girls. I've gone one bold and one pastel and hopefully they will keep some little dollies very warm.

Lights, camera, action!

I'm afraid these lame photos of Christmas lights are all I have to offer today. William has ditched the day sleep in his cot and the only way he will nap is if I cuddle him on the couch. Whilst this is delicious, the big problem is that I keep falling asleep too! There goes my sewing time!

Anyway, most years I like to get a bit creative with the ole' Christmas card. Humour usually features also. Might see if I can dig up some old versions for the record. Today I started on this years, but you'll have to wait to get one in the mail if I know you. As I had the Christmas lights out I couldn't be bothered popping them away for a few weeks so this is what I did with them.





Needless to say Sam and Henry love them. They'll probably have nightmares about asteroids bombarding earth or something they are so bright and flickery.

Henry

A conversation with Henry today went like this:

(Mucking round in the supermarket)
Me: Henry you have no brains
Henry: yes I do!
Me: no You don't!
Henry: yes I do!
Me: ok, you definitely don't have any sense then.
Henry: yes I do!
Me: no you don't.
Henry: yes I do. What is 'sense' anyway?
Me: it means being sensible.
Henry: ok, ok. Yeah, nah, I don't have any sense then.

Red stripe quilt

I've been wanting to sew for a few days but a combination of too much to do, visitors and uncertainty as to what to create has kept me away from the sewing machine.


I've had this red fabric floating around for weeks. I wanted to make something red and white but couldn't settle on what. I wanted to do a strip square thingy of 4 triangles but the fabric wastage was so great and I couldn't bear the thought of so many scraps. I'm still keen to try that idea, but with something else. So for this I have settled on red and white alternating strips. I'm going to do a white with red dot binding.
I've cut them and laid them out but I won't start piecing them together until tomorrow.

Teeny tiny star flower quilt

I saw a wonderful star quilt on Pinterest yesterday. The background panels were a solid colour instead of white and it looked so beautiful.

This made me decide to choose just two of the star flowers I had made up and make a small pram quilt. The rest I'm not sure. I've abandoned my idea of a big quilt (well one with a white background at least), so that lays to rest all my worries about the whites not matching up.

Anyway, I decided on light blue and red for my pram quilt. I joined the 4 stars together with opposing colours next to each other.


One of the blocks in the blue had red through it and I had just enough of that remaining to back it.


I made a scrappy red binding with slices of red that feature in the red star flowers.


It's only small, but I love the colours together and I remember having a small blanket my sister knitted when my boys were small and it was perfect in the pram as it wasn't too bulky.

I wasn't sure what to do for quilting on this one, so eventually I kept it both simple and in keeping with the star theme.

Rainbow quilt topper

I spent all my free time today sewing this up. Luckily (for me) swimming lessons were cancelled due to the awful weather.




It was pretty quick as I only needed to pin when joining the 3 columns together.




I'm hoping Milly has some more purple minky left for the back otherwise I'll get something similar.
