A Cube For Leyla

Leyla had her 4th birthday a few weeks back. I forgot to get a few photos of this cube before William gave it to her so I managed to grab a few when we were visiting yesterday.

It's pretty easy to whip up as a gift and I tore apart two cheap pillows for the stuffing.

Welcome Baby Dylan!

A good friend of mine had a baby the other day and even though I'd bought her a little gift, the afternoon before I visited her I got an urge to sew up a little quilt.

I really like scrappy interesting squares - the real basics of quilting that most beginners cut their teeth on. I guess I haven't lost that as I still find it great fun to pick out all the individual fabrics and watch them come together.

I just did simple diagonal quilting. I still haven't gotten very good at the quilting side and prefer to send my projects off to a long arm quilter.

However on small quilts I'll have a go at it and this time I really smoothed the topper hard when I pinned it and didn't get the rippling problem I usually get.

Took me the rest of the evening but I managed to get this finished the same evening I started it and was able to give it to young Master Dylan when I met him the next morning.

William turns 4

My littlest monkey turned 4 last week. I made him an 8 layer rainbow cake. I used buttercream in the middle to join the layers.

I iced the outside with meringue.

William chose the candles himself. Ever since Sams birthday back in May, he has been obsessed with having lots of candles on his cake. If anyone asked him what he wanted for his birthday he said "lots of candles"!

I also made rainbow jelly cups and fruit kebabs.

William chose his 6 besties to attend. Holly, Leyla, James, Caitlin, Cameron and Ingrid.

Oriental Skirt

Ok I think I'm done with skirts for a while. I do have one more to make but as it needs a layer cake sewed up first it's not going to be featuring any time soon.

I just love the jade green of this skirt. It's fully lined and I hope I get good wear out of it.

Monsters Inc!

No peeking Karen!!!

My neighbor Kristy and I have been making a monster quilt for our friend Karens little boy. It's his birthday at the end of the month so we need to get a wriggle on as we've only just finished the top.

We've had great fun coming up with the various ministers and their accessories. These are some of our favorites:

William also had a favourite and kept telling me that the awesome monster was for him and we couldn't put it on the quilt. As it was already sewn in I told him I'd make him another one.

However when I went to I do it I decided to make him 3D instead. William. Loved him and calls him 'Awesome Monster'!

Salt Air by Cosmo Cricket.

I love love love this quilt. I find it so calm and restful. The fabric is Salt Air by Cosmo Cricket and these were two charm packs that I teamed with grey linen style fabric and a creamy white edging.

The backing is a complimentary dandelion print.

Paper Pieced String Quilt

This quilt has been a long time getting finished. It was my first go at simple paper piecing and it certainly does make for neat edges.

I backed and bound this in a black and white comic book fabric.
